The Masonic Province
The Warrant of Loyal Hay Lodge dated 17th September 1890 was followed by the consecration on 25th November 1890 in the Province of South Wales Eastern Division. Thirty years later, the Lodge applied to be transferred to the Masonic Province of Herefordshire. This request was approved by the Grand Master with effect from 13th December 1920.
The present Lodge premises at Brecon road, Hay on Wye was purchased in 1972. The Lodge meets on the second Tuesday in October (Installation) and December, the third Monday in November and January to April and the third Tuesday in May. Loyal Hay Chapter meets on the first Monday in November and March and the second Monday in May.
Membership of the Lodge consists of 39 full members, 9 country members and 2 honorary members totalling 50 members. From this total, there are 24 regularly attending members.
The Lodge is situated in a large agricultural area, the town of Hay having a total population of approximately 1200 people. It is surrounded by alternative Lodges at Hereford, Leominster, Kington, Llandrindod Wells, Builth Wells, Brecon and Abergavenny which has a detrimental effect on recruitment opportunities. Younger members in full time Employment with family commitments living at a distance from the Lodge find it difficult to attend due to the way we are currently organised.
To alleviate this situation and to make us more attractive to potential new members, we are actively considering altering our Structure which may also be of benefit in recruitment. The Lodge provides Financial contributions to a number of local Charities. Local Organisations use the Lodge Premises to pursue their activities.
