Ariconium Lodge

Ariconium Lodge was founded to ease progress in its mother lodge, Vitruvian. Together with new members, existing masons moving or retiring to Ross on Wye found progression slow. In 1979, the formation of this second Ross on Wye lodge certainly helped the situation and over the intervening years it has become a successful, independent lodge with a character of its own.

The name Ariconium, was chosen to maintain the Roman connection to Vitruvian Lodge, It was the name of the major Roman iron smelting town near Weston under Penyard which has since disappeared. A Roman Legionnaire appears on the Lodge Banner with the motto Ferro Vicerunt Vincimus Amore. Which translates as ‘they worked in Iron, we work in love’.

The lodge sees the importance of good ceremonies, but realises that to some brethren ritual can be difficult. Help and assistance is always available. A Lodge of Instruction meets monthly and all brethren are encouraged to take part.

Above all it values the well being of brethren and the continued support of its widows. A Ladies Festival is held each year in late February, a Christmas Party for its children and garden parties in the summer. Brethren from other lodges are encouraged to attend.

If you are interested in becoming a mason or a brother moving to the area through employment or retirement, a warm Masonic welcome will always be available at Ariconium Lodge. You can contact us through the Lodge Secretary, details on the Lodges page.
